Announcement: Streets of Detroit Cancelled

Indianapolis, IN

By result of the Midwest Drift Union continuing its pursuit to provide its region’s community with a challenge, continual progression, and fun; the originally scheduled MDU Round 3 aka Streets of Detroit has been cancelled. This cancellation comes as a result of a mutual agreement between MDU and the City of Detroit.
“When we (MDU) launched our Streets of Detroit event, we knew it was a temporary production” states Nick Swann, MDU’s Head of Operations. “The progression of Roosevelt Park’s construction combined with the rapid growth in talent within MDU’s competing drivers has brought us to a point where we have simply outgrown the venue. Detroit, Motor City, will always have a special place in Midwest Drift Union’s history and we will always look back on those three great years of offering one of the most awesome events in such an iconic place.”

Midwest Drift Union’s Round 3 date, August 20th, will not be filled with a different event. Instead, the originally scheduled Round 4 at Kil-Kare Raceway in Xenia, OH will now replace it on the 2016 schedule as the new 3rd Round to make way for the new and innovative Round 4 scheduled for October 15th.

“We’re very excited to announce our partnership with USDrift which is going to allow us to put on a unique final round for the 2016 MDU Championship Series. MDU & USDrift will run parallel Top 16 brackets at the all new Dominion Raceway in Thornburg, VA”, explained Edgar Sarmiento, MDU President. “Both series will maintain their own points standings under this system, so this won’t upset either series’ season, and the event will culminate in a final showdown between the best of the best”.

In addition to the new final round, MDU is also holding a Driver Appreciation Day at Lucas Oil Raceway on July 10th during Import Face-Off. According to Jon Gilliatt, MDU Co-Founder “This is going to be a free event for any previously registered MDU drivers in the 2016 season, so please join us on the 10th for a great summer day of driving”.
